The Montana Knife Company has updated their Cattlemen cleaver design, making it lighter and shaped to match their other kitchen knives better.

The 2.0 changes are subtle, but worth noting:
- First they reduced the thickness of the blade a little (that should make it cut a little smoother);
- They gave the blade the “back-sloping heel” that has become standard across all their other culinary knives (which actually makes the cutting-edge length a little longer than the blade length);
- And they’ve skeletonized the tang to reduce weight and adjust the balance more to be blade-heavy.
It was designed to cut thick slabs of meat and hack through bone, but (like with many cleavers) the tall blade and full flat grind should work great with vegetables as well.
The handle is full tang with G-10 scales which will be available in three color options: red, black, and an orange & black combo. The scales are fastened with titanium screws, which should make the whole set up highly corrosion-resistant.
It comes with a Kydex blade guard (it’s maybe a little too spare to be called a proper sheath, but we won’t argue the semantics too hard) with a button strap that wraps around the spine. And as always, it comes with MKC’s Generations Promise, which means they’ll repair, sharpen, and generally spa treat the knife for free.
