The FB04 is a large, fixed blade but still a smaller brother to the FB02 design, which was popular but too large for some people to carry.
So here are the quick specs:
Overall Length: | 10.3″ |
Blade Length: | 5.9″ |
Blade Steel: | SLD-Magic |
Handle Material: | G10 w/ titanium guard and pommel |
Sheath: | Kydex, taco-style |
This is in continued collaboration with Tomoyuki Nemoto of Sekura Blade Nemoto, who has already done several tactical designs with Katsu.
The SLD-Magic steel is a high carbon tool steel that doesn’t get much use in western designs. It’s a Hitachi steel that’s a modification of SKD-11 which is equivalent to D2. So this is very much in non-stainless tool steel territory: It has high wear resistance, and a stability that will depend heavily on how well the heat treatment was handled.
The Kydex sheath looks like an interesting arrangement that relies on nylon straps to communicate with belts and straps for carrying rather than a clip.
Katus says the first batch will be limited, so you might want to hurry after it as they haven’t mentioned how far behind the next batch would be. You can pick up the Katsu FB04 on Katsu’s website.
