Coming this summer is the Bulwark, a compact flipper with some interesting design quirks (and that you might have seen in some Shot Show coverage). Overall it’s meant to be strong cutter for hard-use EDC. SOG’s press release emphasizes its ruggedness and carryability.
Here are the quick specs:
Overall Length: | 7.2″ |
Blade Length: | 3.0″ |
Blade Steel: | D2 w/ black PVD coating |
Handle Material: | Micarta |
Designer: | Mikkel Willumsen |
Built to be tough little folder, the Bulwark features a unique handle design that might be best described as skeletonized with scales.
It’s a frame lock with Micarta scales on the upper sections where the palm of the hand would meat the handle, while the bottom half is aluminum to make up the lower section for the lock up. All of those pieces are anchored to a backspacer in pommel.
Designer Mikkel Willumsen has a history of interesting folder designs with a variety of manufacturers including WE Knife Co, Brous Blades, and Kansept. In fact, the Bulwark shares some close design language with his earlier SOG collaboration, the Prohen XR, another flipper with an angular thumb-hole cut out in a tall blade.
Look for the SOG Bulwark this summer.
